Canadian Expatriates, its contributors, and readers have been invited by Foreign Affairs Canada to participate in a series of eDiscussions. The current topic is “Showcasing Canadian Culture and Know-How Abroad”.

We are asked to consider the following questions:

What role does Canadian culture and know-how play in our foreign policy?

How might the government best promote Canadian talent and expertise in the world?

The eDiscussion runs from April 4 to May 6, 2005. At its conclusion, a summary of the discussion will be sent to senior policy planners.

Pet Peeve of the Moment

It is very aggravating to see Canadian politicians make ridiculous statements that will later be picked up by the American media and aired to show just how silly the neighbours to the north must be.

Here is the story, "CNN Can't Find Us on a Map", via the Toronto Sun.

ROTFLMAO!!

You would be surprised how many news stories are about Canada here - all of them negative. If Canadians are not trying to inflict everyone with a case of mad cow, then they are shipping scores of terrorists over the border, or trashing Michigan.

I will refrain from commenting further lest my in-laws stumble across this comment and read it. I must remain diplomatic, but something tells me that my father-in-law is an avid viewer of the "24 Hour Texas Tumbleweed Cam". ;o)

You know, I thought that Monday's game would be the end of the NCAA fury, but I was wrong. Turns out that when the local team makes it to the final two only to lose, there is a lot of water cooler talk in the days and weeks to follow.

Poor Illini. :o(
