Moment of Zen by Expat
Ugh!
The majority of the keys on my laptop keyboard have conveniently stopped working, which has left me relying upon the on-screen keyboard to respond to emails and to post. So far, this technique has not met with a great deal of success and I would not recommend it to the masses. :P
My apologies to those who have emailed me inquiring about having their urls added to the blogroll. I will make the additions as soon as it is humanly possible.
I never knew about any on-screen keyboard. I keep learning new things from you; thanks!
Is there any hope for cleaning the physical keyboard? On my laptop, there are slide-clips under the top row which hold it in place (it's hinged near the spacebar, and connected with ribbon cable). Other models, of course, are assembled differently.
I looked for the clips, but have not found them yet. I have a feeling that this problem has everything to do with the glass of water that a certain black & white dog knocked over a few weeks go. :S
I wonder I could just buy a new keyboard and replace this one once I figure out how to disassemble this thing? What if the water created more problems than just shorting out the keys? Eeek!
Expat, who is suffering from point and click trauma.
I learned today that there is nobody in town who will touch my Sony Vaio. In fact, the word on the street is that Sony keeps a very tight chokehold on its component pieces, so I would be best to just send it in to be serviced. UGH!
Next time I am buying Alienware. All the cool kids are doing it. :P
Expat, can you plug an external keyboard into a port on the back of your laptop? It's not pretty, but most of us have regular old keyboards lying around. It's just a temporary solution, of course.
As for Alienware, they were just purchased by Dell and thus are dead to me.
I had the same thought as you about the external keyboard and went out last night to find one that would work. The only USB varieties that I found came with a mouse, which is ridiclous considering that I just bought a new kick-booty mouse last week. :P I did find a decent keyboard online though and it is on its way. One more sleep and I will be blogging "ghetto-style" from the comfort of anywhere on my laptop. Woot!
Dang that Alienware was just bought out by Dell. I have shed a tear.
