Canadian Expatriates, its contributors, and readers have been invited by Foreign Affairs Canada to participate in a series of eDiscussions. The current topic is “Showcasing Canadian Culture and Know-How Abroad”.

We are asked to consider the following questions:

What role does Canadian culture and know-how play in our foreign policy?

How might the government best promote Canadian talent and expertise in the world?

The eDiscussion runs from April 4 to May 6, 2005. At its conclusion, a summary of the discussion will be sent to senior policy planners.

Did anyone happen to catch MythBusters last night? Adam, Jamie, and the build team attempted to help Buster and Suzie emigrate from Canada via the world's largest slingshot.

The premise of the show, according to the MythBusters' website is as follows:

Episode 35: Border Slingshot
Is it feasible to fly over the frontier? In this episode, Adam and Jamie take on the myth that illegal immigrants are firing themselves 200 yards across the border and into the United States with a slingshot so accurate, it can land the human projectiles safely on a carefully placed mattress. Border patrols are reportedly baffled - can the MythBusters' handbuilt human-sized slingshot solve the puzzle?

The myth was completely busted when Buster and Suzie landed short of the border. Perhaps next time the MythBusters could try the used car catapult. The landing might be a little rough, but the bureaucracy of the USCIS would be avoided. :p
