My "advance press release" post ended up being far less satirical than I had originally planned. It appears that I ended up correctly predicting the main points of Martin's speech!
Yeah. Bring on the election. I'm tired of hearing about it. I do find it funny that most every Canadian blog is talking about the Gomery inquiry, whereas The Expat Blog rarely touches on it. I guess a little bit of distance from home helps.
I think that watching the story unfold from this side of the border softens the outrage a little. The media here has not really picked up on the story (at least not to the same magnitude as the Canadian media) so I am not reminded of it constantly. I actually have to go out of my way to stay on top of events in Canada, the Gomery inquiry included.
Being on this side of the 49th also leads me to question why Canadians tend to stick it out with the same government for so long? It seems like Canadians will remain with the same governing party until a huge scandal comes along and reminds us that it is time for a change and some accountability from our politicians. Maybe we need to have term limits on how long a politician can remain Prime Minister, similar to what is done in the US with the president?
As for the Expat Blog not covering the Gomery inquiry, at present, this blog’s main issues are trying to keep the Minutemen from patrolling the Blogger dashboard and hoping that the mighty United States does not try to annex this little bit of the internet! ;o)
